Lord Rings: Stamp Sheets

Available in denominations of 40c, 80c, 90c, $1.30, $1.50, and $2.00 for 'The Fellowship of the Ring' issue, each sheet of 25 stamps (five rows by five columns) measures 11 x 6 1/8"; 28 x 15.5 cm and is bordered by a decorative strip which differs between commemorative issues.

Set of six stamps strips includes a 'The Fellowship of the Ring' logo (at top) and plate/imprint block (at bottom) of five stamps containing the printer's and designer's info - one each in horizontal and vertical orientation. Horizontal set of two strips approx. size: 3 1/8 H x 11" W; 8 x 28 cm.

These stamps and sheets were available for a brief time from New Zealand Post shops, or as part of the Full Set which included all the 'The Fellowship of the Ring' issue excluding (in some strange oversight), the set of six Miniature Sheet First Day Covers (FDC). Full Set of 224 stamps comes in a large black Lord of the Rings folder which includes: set of 6 gummed and 6 self-adhesive stamps, self-adhesive booklet of 10 stamps, 6 sheets of 25 gummed stamps per denomination, gummed sheetlet of 10 stamps, set of 6 miniature sheets, set of 6 maximum cards with stamps, self-adhesive FDC with 6 stamps, gummed FDC with 6 stamps, Presentation Pack with 18 stamps. Single stamp rows with attached logo blocks were popular with collectors as they were better suited for mounting or framing than the complete stamp sheets. A related item is the Gandalf Saruman Sheetlet which features a different border design. Additional sets featuring key characters and scenes are expected to be released to coincide with 'The Two Towers' and 'The Return of the King'.
